Recipe: Instant Pot Dal

Fresh Pasta Machine, Recipe
Instant Pot Dal on Jeera Rice, also made in the Instant Pot.
This incredibly flavorful and easy Dal recipe will have you craving Indian Cuisine often at home.

Super simple to make, it does require a few extra spices that you might need to find in your local grocer or online.

But once you get started making these dishes, you may never stop.

The Instant Pot has become a major appliance in our household, usually making one or two meals each week.

This recipe was modified from the original at The Edgy Veg. A great website with many wonderful vegetarian recipes.

Prep, Cook, Servings

Prep: 10 min. Cook: 20 min.

Servings: 4

Ingredients

2 Tbsp olive oil

1 large yellow onion, chopped

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 tbsp minced ginger

1 tsp ground cumin

1 tsp ground turmeric

1 tbsp curry powder

1 tsp garam masala

¼ tsp cayenne

¼ tsp mustard seeds

1½ cups of dried brown or red lentils

3 cups vegetable broth

½ tsp salt

2 tomatoes, chopped

¼ cup fresh cilantro, chopped + extra for garnish

Instructions

On your instant pot, set to 'Sauté' mode, add heat the oil.

Add onion and cook until translucent.

Stir in garlic, ginger, cumin, turmeric, curry powder, garam masala, cayenne, and mustard seeds and cook for another minute until fragrant.

Hit the 'Cancel' button and add lentils, water, salt, chopped tomatoes and mix to combine.

Cover the Instant Pot with the lid, and close the pressure valve. Set to Pressure Cook mode and set the cooking time to 10 minutes.

After the timer sounds, carefully perform a manual pressure release per the manufacturer's instructions. Once you've completed the manual pressure release, remove the cover.

Mix the lentil mixture and add the chopped cilantro.

Stir to combine, serve over Jeera Rice and with naan.
